ABC Circle Films/Productions

ABC Circle Films
1st Logo
(mid 1970s)

Logo: On a space background, we see two neon-outlined ABC logos (probably one red and one white, but hard to tell because the light effects are so cheap) aligned like a Venn Diagram, and as they fly up to the screen the two logos merge into one with a neon-purple outline. Below, the neon-red text "circle films" pans from the right.

FX: The ABC logos flying and merging, the "circle films" panning.

Cheesy Factor: The space background and panning effects reek of the primitive "scanimation" techniques typical of computerized logos of the time. Also, those ABC logos are so badly colored the merging effects are barely visible!

Music: A dramatic synth tune.

Availability: Most likely extinct, as far as I know only used on ABC movie telecasts of the time.

Scare Factor: Median, due to the overly cheesy SFX and dramatic music.

2nd Logo
(1980s-1989)

Logo: On a light blue background, we see the stacked words

ABC
CIRCLE
FILMS (in same crystal lettering as used in "ABC Motion Pictures" logo)

zoom from the bottom of the screen. The logo "shines."

FX: The words zooming, the logo "shining."

Cheesy Factor:
Simple animation.

Music: TBA

Availability: Seen on "Moonlighting" on Bravo.

Scare Factor: TBA

ABC Productions
(1989-1998)

Logo: On a brown background, a half-circle, brightly lit ABC logo and the word "productions" below it zoom out to the screen. The ABC copyright information "(C) American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. All Rights Reserved" fades in below.

FX: The "ABC productions" zooming.

Music: A harp fanfare.

Availability: Seen on "America’s Funniest Home Videos" reruns on ABC Family.

Scare Factor: None, the logo is harmless.
